Good morning Youth Services staff!
I just wanted to share something that my counterpart in Iowa, Angie Manfredi (and bonus she used to be the head of Youth Services in Los Alamos!), has sent to her libraries. It's a list of resources you can share with your parents during these weeks with the kids at home to help keep them educated and entertained. Please don't hesitate to share any others that you come across with the list, we've gotta help each other through these times!
* Storyline Online 7<https://www.storylineonline.net/>(Don't forget this resource of celebrities reading picture books
* An online calendar of KidLit events 3<https://calendar.google.com/calendar/embed?src=kidlitevent@gmail.com&ctz=America/New_York&fbclid=IwAR32dROSDdl5M54X07e6uuK31uYmq2jfjtHf0KqxV4O3Tk-Anllc51Jz8hU&pli=1>, including schedules for creators reading from their own work/sharing things online:
* Reading Connects Us<https://us19.campaign-archive.com/home/?u=5b876333808499090787c390e&id=454bd22741>: A newsletter about virtual learning that is full of links to lessons, things authors are sharing, etc.
* Picture Book Read Alouds 3<https://pernillesripp.com/2020/03/14/picture-books-read-aloud-videos-for-lesson-use/> - this is made up of authors reading their own work, including a list from the Indianapolis Public Library with over 100 titles, and titles in other languages.
* Read, Wonder, and Learn 2<https://www.katemessner.com/read-wonder-and-learn-favorite-authors-illustrators-share-resources-for-learning-anywhere-spring-2020/> - this is a lot of authors sharing lessons, excerpts, etc from their books.
* Authors Everywhere 3<https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCowhHSUaWp3KJDcuI0nR0vw?view_as=subscriber> - A YouTube channel with authors sharing their books and work, will also, hopefully, host panels and other discussions.
* Scholastic's Learn at Home 2<https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/support/learnathome.html?promo_code=6294&eml=CM/smd/20200312//txtl/sm/ed> - Daily lesson plans that include books from Weston Woods, activities, and more
* Jarrett Lerner's Activities Page 3<https://jarrettlerner.com/activities/> lots of print outs/activities that encourage creativity and story creation
Hope you all stay healthy and safe and I'm here if you need to brainstorm ideas or help with anything. I know a lot of libraries that have closed are focusing on weeding and that's kind of my most favorite thing in librarianship so if you have questions with that, I'm always happy to help!
