Youth Services News FW: Asking for Donations for Prizes

I don't know if you have any experience with this, but my Mayor keeps suggesting that I ask the local dollar store and Walmart to donate prizes for Summer Reading. But I've never done that before, so I don't know how to go about it. Do I just call them or send an email? Visit in person? Just any suggestions you have about it would be really helpful.
