Title: Ea: Indigenous Agency and Abundance: Impacts of Indigenous librarians and libraries on Indigenous communities, health, and inclusion and the 12th International Indigenous Librarians' Forum
Description:
Grounded on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, this presentation will look at the critical impacts that Indigenous librarians and libraries have upon Indigenous communities, health, and inclusion and how this is supported by the long-standing work of IILF which 12thconvening takes place in Hawai’i in November 2023.
In 1999, the first International Indigenous Librarians’ Forum (IILF) was held in Aotearoa (New Zealand) by Te Rōpū Whakahau, the leading Māori librarian association, with support from the American Indian Library Association (AILA), the leading Native American and Tribal library association. IILF would be the first ever international meeting between Indigenous information professionals and the first to offer a uniquely Indigenous, forum-style space for Native librarians and knowledge keepers to gather, discuss, and share the projects, plans, and hardships specific to their communities and the collections and institutions that serve them.
Held every two years since, IILF continues to be an international catalyst for national and global discussions within librarianship led by Native peoples on topics such as Indigenous rights, protocols, knowledge organization systems, and notions of access within libraries while also increasing Indigenous-authored scholarship related to these topics. As IILF fosters powerful relationships between attending knowledge keepers, IILF has successfully facilitated numerous joint partnerships, collective statements, scholarship, and professional initiatives between libraries and librarians from across the globe that has aided countless communities.
Speakers:
Loriene Roy (Anishinabe), Ph.D.
Distinguished Service Professor Emerita
School of Information, The University of Texas at Austin
Hauʻolihiwahiwa Moniz, MLISc

Libraries and women empowerment at the intersection of development
Join us in a lively discussion grounded in the UN SDG 3 Gender Equality and the UN SDG 10 Reduced Inequalities as we share stories about how libraries are empowering women and contributing to development. Libraries are essential to development and are impacting our world in areas related to education, technology, salary equity, and lifelong learning while continuing making strides towards reducing inequalities.
Members of the American Library Association (ALA) United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Subcommittee along with the ALA President are coming together to converse about these themes, share examples, models and recommendations.

Subject: [IFLA-L] UN High-Level Political Forum on the SDGs: Upcoming webinars
To: ifla-l at iflalists.org<mailto:ifla-l at iflalists.org> <ifla-l at iflalists.org<mailto:ifla-l at iflalists.org>>
Dear all,
With the United Nations High Level Political Forum<https://www.ifla.org/events/un-high-level-political-forum-2023/> (HLPF) starting next week, we’re looking forward to seizing the opportunity to underline the role of libraries in delivering positive change across the full range of policy areas.
You can follow our website and social media for more insights and news over the coming two weeks, but we wanted to encourage you to register for two webinars in particular that are taking place as HLPF side-events:
The missing goal? The place of culture in SDG implementation today and tomorrow
12 July, 12:30-13:45 UTC (see what time this is for you<https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html?iso=20230712T123000&p1=179>)
The UN Secretary General’s report on progress<https://hlpf.un.org/sites/default/files/2023-04/SDG%20Progress%20Report%20Special%20Edition.pdf> against the SDGs in 2023 has underlined both the potential of culture – from creators and institutions, to the underlining attitudes and beliefs that shape behaviour – to accelerate the achievement of the Goals.
Yet despite this, there is no culture goal, risking the under-valuation and under-integration of culture in the planning and delivery of development policies.
This session, organised by partners in the Culture2030Goal campaign<https://culture2030goal.net/> is an opportunity therefore to think together about an alternative – what if there had been a culture goal? What would it look like, how would it fit within the whole, and what might it mean in terms of national implementation of the SDGs?
Join us on 12 July 2023, at 12:30-13:45 UTC (see what time this is for you<https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html?iso=20230712T123000&p1=179>) – you can register at this link<https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_RvCjlezITLOluJsnfZqZSA>.
In particular, the session will:
* Explore the shape of a potential culture goal, drawing on the Culture2030Goal campaign’s zero-draft as presented at the 2022 UNESCO MONDIACULT Conference
* Examine the interlinkages between a potential culture goal and existing SDGs, highlighting in particular opportunities to accelerate progress
* Provide a snapshot of research into the place of culture in 2023 VNRs.
* Take stock of the High-Level Meeting on Culture and Sustainable Development, organised by the UN President of the General Assembly
Speakers: John Crowley (independent), Jordi Pascual (UCLG Culture Committee), Bretony Colville (ICOMOS), Jorge do Prado (FEBAB Argentina)

Partnerships for performance: lessons learned from integrating libraries into SDG delivery
13 July, 12:30-13:45pm UTC (see what time this is for you<https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html?iso=20230713T123000&p1=179>)
Imagine a space where people can, at the same time, become smarter internet users, engage in civic and community activities, learn about healthy living, take climate action, carry out research and citizen science, and access lifelong learning opportunities, all for free? In the world’s >2.5M libraries, these already exist.
There is now a growing body of evidence, through Voluntary National Reviews, of how governments are successfully mobilising this potential by integrating libraries into their development planning, often in new and unexpected ways.
This side-event of the UN High-Level Political Forum brings together examples of this, looking to learn lessons that can, in turn help leverage inclusive, sustainable development around the world.
Speakers: Niall McLoughlin, Irish Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, Muhamad Ikram, Deputy Minister, Maldives Ministry of Culture, Matias Sotomayor, Chair Council of Social Affairs of Argentina

We look forward to seeing you at these events!
