Hi Breanna,
Free books have always been a popular prize along the way but I only
could do that at a larger library. Here we have a basket of
toys/pencils/lip balm/etc for the weekly check-ins and readers get a
raffle ticket for each book read (or 5 read-to-me books). For the end of
summer we do the raffle but have quite a few prizes for all ages from
gift cards or museum memberships to t-shirts, books, games, outdoor
gear, etc... At the end we invite up the kids who didn't get a prize to
pick something and also have a book cart of free books for all ages so
no one leaves empty handed. The books are from donations - I save up the
brand new books throughout the year. And we sometimes buy kid's books
from Scholastic Literacy Partners.
Best Wishes,
Janet
