Good morning Youth Services staff!
Below are a few emails that have come my way in the past couple of weeks with a lot of resources for you all on a variety of topics:
________________________________
My name is Michelle from the Public Library Innovation Exchange (PLIX)<http://plix.media.mit.edu/>, and we're reaching out through CSLP because we want to extend a special invitation to the libraries in New Mexico, where we haven't yet met anyone!
PLIX connects public library professionals and MIT Media Lab researchers to co-design learning experiences, develop and share facilitation practices, and integrate creative learning<https://learn.media.mit.edu/creative-learning> into public library programming. PLIX strives to increase equitable access to and broaden participation in STEAM programming. Our activities include STEAM projects that seem particularly well suited to CSLP's upcoming themes of Tails & Tales and Oceans of Possibility, like creating inflatable costumes and soft robotics using upcycled materials<https://plix.media.mit.edu/activities/inflatables>.
I'm excited to share with you our upcoming Facilitating Creative Learning online course<https://plix.media.mit.edu/events/fcl-online-course-2021/>. The 4-week online course will begin the week of April 26, 2021. We plan to spend about eight hours total together-some in shared time together, but mostly asynchronous. And, thanks to support from IMLS, it is free to participate!
With these four weeks of interactive professional development, your state's library professionals will gain the skills and confidence to start facilitating creative STEAM programming for your patrons. You can head to our website<https://plix.media.mit.edu/events/fcl-online-course-2021/> to read more and to sign up.

There's still time for libraries to sign up to be summer feeding sites and distribute free meals and snacks this summer. The Summer Food Service Program<https://www.fns.usda.gov/sfsp/summer-food-service-program> (SFSP) is a USDA-funded program that provides free meals and snacks to children ages 0-18 in communities with high levels of need. During the pandemic, area eligibility requirements for this program have been relaxed nationwide and many more communities are eligible.
An overview of SFSP and how to get started was published in the latest CSLP newsletter:
https://www.cslpreads.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/2021-summer-food-service-program.pdf<https://www.cslpreads.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/2021-summer-food-service-program.pdf>

The Libraries and Summer Food guide is a one-stop resource for libraries looking to learn more and get involved in SFSP or other ways to connect youth with healthy food. It has been updated for 2021 and covers all the basics:

Read Up! is a mini-manual for summer feeding sites featuring easy-to-implement enrichment activities that support reading, creativity, and fun.
This is a 26-page resource for SFSP and other feeding sites outside of libraries. State library agencies and public libraries are encouraged to share this resource with summer food sites to give them tools and ideas for integrating enrichment programming that supports reading and literacy. The activities are based on programs developed for the CSLP manual, and are adapted for non-library settings.
Customize page 2 with your library's information and page 26 with your library's logo before distributing:

Are you unsure how to feel about cats with glasses? Maybe you are
curious how a giraffe might transport a tablet? Well, look no further
than the 2021 CSLP PSA!

The "base" files are available for your libraries to add their own logo
or text if this is something they are interested in doing. These files
can be found on the "Additional Program Tools" tab, under the Manual
Downloads drop down. Here is the direct link, although you do need to be
logged in to access them:

Finally, we will be releasing a handful of 15 - 20 second "shorts" cut
from the PSA. These will be perfect for libraries to share on their
social media accounts on a weekly basis, keeping patron's attention
throughout the summer.
