Bringing Connectivity to Your Community

[Connect New Mexico: Office of Broadband Access & Expansion]
Directors Corner:

In this update, Acting Director, Drew Lovelace provides insights into broadband funding opportunities, the recent tribal convening and ways to get involved with digital inclusion in your community.

[Director Drew Lovelace]
ACP can still be saved...but time is running out

Without additional funding from Congress, the allotted $14.2 billion to fund
the ACP is projected to run out in April 2024 (this date is an estimate and may change).

If you want to learn more about what you can do to support continuation of the ACP, go to dontdisconnectus.org<https://lnks.gd/l/eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJidWxsZXRpbl9saW5rX2lkIjoxMDAsInVyaSI6ImJwMjpjbGljayIsInVybCI6Imh0dHBzOi8vd3d3LmRvbnRkaXNjb25uZWN0dXMub3JnLz91dG1fbWVkaXVtPWVtYWlsJnV0bV9zb3VyY2U9Z292ZGVsaXZlcnkiLCJidWxsZXRpbl9pZCI6IjIwMjQwMzAxLjkxMTQzNDUxIn0.P5_25rLUhFGnJWZ3xwkhmrv31Rj0TFhCAtxl3pQGaCU/s/3073800055/br/238101875826-l>. While New Mexico's congressional delegation is in favor of an extension, you can review resources on the site to identify opportunities to advocate for
continuation of this federal program.

2024 Tribal Convening
[Tribal Convening]
The conference proved to be a valuable opportunity for stakeholders to convene and receive updates on pertinent technical, legislative, and funding matters concerning broadband. Attendees included Tribal Leaders alongside personnel from IT, Broadband, and Education sectors, fostering a collaborative environment conducive to addressing key issues impacting tribal communities.

You Can (and Should) Still Challenge the Maps!

There are three important map challenges scheduled or underway. It is critically important to
correct any data that may be inaccurate indicating internet coverage as portrayed within the
maps for funding to be spent in an effective manner to achieve meaningful broadband access for those who need it most.

Please note the following important dates:
Federal Communications Commission FCC Challenges: Broadband Serviceable Locations
(BSLs) due March 8, 2024; Service Availability Challenges due anytime
Connect New Mexico Fund Challenges March 25 - April 5, 2024
NM Bead Challenge approximately February 26 - March 26, 2024 (exact dates pending NTIA Approval)
To review the maps and learn more about the challenge process, go to our mapping and data webpage.
