WASHINGTON, DC—The Institute of Museum and Library Services announced today that the agency's Annual Performance Report<https://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001n_7ZZoWO0Rm1ari1koxm1mAu-LHQQqU-rEmzd_kXWyikw298NVN_PpJlPgzJdOrrrRk3nYDHnxyTl280-3tqSeSWYFPpxoOgsfWehdaiq1G-4CMZM0aTi7R3whIzJVg7HyAWic3_Y2iBNgzBVyYBXNYrIhc51mYNRkmctqvwCRp75xYs8rf09fOl4N1_ALvznOIIbTJEATw=&c=aUTn5CEyWclCm4SRfE1upYi5T8DyythaRpUI4gqQJLhzJuQJimxePA==&ch=7GRVgehAULi5CwvnZy70LknRs_dVcDPkvgac-jO_qHtcItga9TfoOg==> (APR) is now available for FY 2023. The report is an in-depth look at how IMLS aligns its strategic priorities with practice.

The APR reviews key impacts of the agency’s activities for FY 2023. Highlights from the report include:

  *   IMLS completed the pilot phase of the National Museum Survey (NMS), the first-ever annual federal survey to gather and share data about the essential work happening across the country in museums and cultural institutions. The effort has secured the future of the NMS, set to launch in early 2025.

  *   As part of IMLS’s continued IMLS 250 activities in recognition of America’s semiquincentennial, the agency partnered with PBS Books and Detroit Public Television to create a streaming series called “Visions of America: All Stories, All People, All Places.” For the series’ first season, the team produced three episodes that explore the history and stories in Miami, Seattle, and Kansas City that have contributed to America as we know it today.

  *   Under the President’s United We Stand initiative, IMLS was entrusted with the responsibility of developing a federal Information Literacy Taskforce focused on the trusted local institutions we serve to reinforce their existing community information networks and the best practices of civic institutions. In response to both Congress and the White House, IMLS is working to launch a community-centered program to address misunderstandings and support literacy and education in many areas, from finance, health, and climate to civic engagement and public safety.

  *   Under the National Museum of the American Latino Act, IMLS awarded more than $4 million to eight institutions through the agency’s new American Latino Museum Internship and Fellowship Initiative (ALMIFI). ALMIFI is designed to strengthen the institutional capacity of the American Latino Museum community and provide opportunities for internships and fellowships at American Latino museums for students enrolled in institutions of higher education, including Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs).

  *   IMLS developed the Agency’s first Learning Agenda in a published report “Learning Agenda: Research Questions to Guide IMLS Priorities, FY 2023–2026.” This is a research initiative that aims to deliver on IMLS’s mission to advance, support, and empower America’s museums, libraries, and related organizations through grantmaking, research, and policy development.
