Dear Community Institute Delegate,

On behalf of the Leadership Institute at the Santa Fe Indian School, I would like to thank you for joining us at the Tribal Education Community Institute last fall. It was an honor hosting over ninety delegates from 13 Pueblos, the Navajo Nation, the Jicarilla Apache Nation, and the Mescalero Apache Tribe.

We are pleased to present the report<https://tribaleducationalliance.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Tribal-Ed-Community-Institute-Report-Sept-2023-12-19-23.pdf> of the convening, which summarizes the presentations, discussions and contributions. Most importantly, we collected your recommendations for state policymakers and used these to update and refine the Tribal Remedy Framework (TRF) proposals for 2024. Please find a summary of your recommendations attached.

The Tribal Education Alliance<https://tribaleducationalliance.org/> (TEA), chaired by Regis Pecos, crafted this year’s TRF bills guided by the Community Institute’s recommendations. TEA will email updates on the progress of TRF proposals (if you don’t want to receive those updates, you can unsubscribe).  As you may recall, the TRF is the collective tribal response to the 2018 Yazzie/Martinez court order, developed jointly by tribal leaders, educators, and Indigenous education experts. It has been endorsed by New Mexico’s 23 Nations, Tribes, and Pueblos.
