OBAE Announces Launch of the Connect New Mexico Fund

Series of Informational Webinars Scheduled Beginning January 10

The Office of Broadband Access and Expansion (OBAE) recently announced the launch of the Connect New Mexico Fund (“Fund”) in conjunction with the release of the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). The Connect New Mexico Fund includes a $70 million grant program to foster the deployment of broadband access to unserved and underserved locations (residents, businesses, and community institutions).


Interested parties are encouraged to attend the scheduled series of webinars. OBAE will provide additional details about eligibility, requirements and the application process. Each of the following webinars will take place from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM MT.

About the Connect New Mexico Fund

The Connect New Mexico Fund aims to foster the deployment of broadband access to unserved and underserved locations (residents, businesses, and community institutions) through scalable, sustainable networks and financially viable business plans. Projects should target such locations with reliable, reasonably priced high-speed solutions while promoting digital inclusion.



A recent external analysis concluded that substantial grant funding is required to complement private investment to enable the deployment of terrestrial networks to fully bridge the digital divide. The Connect New Mexico Fund will help address funding gaps and serve as a catalyst to attract such private investment.



The NOFO sets forth the program purpose, eligibility factors (e.g., project types, technologies, service areas, entities), allowable expenditures, performance requirements (e.g., network performance, service offerings, etc.), evaluation criteria, and post-award compliance requirements.



OBAE recognizes that various broadband networks (last-mile and middle-mile) and technologies (fiber, fixed wireless, non-terrestrial) are required to connect all New Mexicans. Although the sessions will be recorded and available for viewing at a later date, OBAE encourages potential applicants to attend these webinars and contact OBAE staff if you have any specific questions.
