Dear Cassandra,

With support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation<https://atalm.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=1b5fd0b3926b2a0236f0325a1&id=39d7adeeaa&e=009ae9317d>, the Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums has launched a national initiative to provide support for Native communities seeking the return of culturally significant materials.

The "Going Home Fund: Returning Material Culture to Native Communities" is led by a national council<https://atalm.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=1b5fd0b3926b2a0236f0325a1&id=f62d6aee40&e=009ae9317d> of Native repatriation specialists, museum professionals, and attorneys.

During its inaugural year, the Going Home Fund will:

  *   Provide financial support<https://atalm.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=1b5fd0b3926b2a0236f0325a1&id=4a28f735d7&e=009ae9317d> for tribal communities seeking the return of culturally significant items. Funds may be used to cover the actual cost of shipping, packaging, insurance, and other expenses necessary to facilitate the return, display, and care of the objects.
  *   Strengthen the capacity <https://atalm.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=1b5fd0b3926b2a0236f0325a1&id=51d803aae7&e=009ae9317d> of tribal museums to seek loans and gifts by providing training and resources.
  *   Build connections <https://atalm.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=1b5fd0b3926b2a0236f0325a1&id=50a7720fc8&e=009ae9317d> between tribal communities and non-Native collecting institutions and collectors/individuals.
  *   Serve as a conduit <https://atalm.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=1b5fd0b3926b2a0236f0325a1&id=54aaf869c5&e=009ae9317d> for individual donors or organizations wishing to return items.
  *   Establish a network <https://atalm.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=1b5fd0b3926b2a0236f0325a1&id=3d2bcb3ff9&e=009ae9317d> of appraisers, attorneys, and other professionals who can lend their support to facilitating returns.
