Why does the job exist?
This position leads the State Library's digital equity efforts, including continuation of the Broadband for Libraries Program, support for the IT needs of the public library network, and digital equity special projects of the State Library. Created in 1978 by the New Mexico Legislature, the Department of Cultural Affairs represents New Mexico's dedication to preserving and celebrating the cultural integrity and diversity of our state. The Department oversees a broad range of New Mexico's arts and cultural heritage agencies. These include 15 divisions representing a variety of programs and services.

How does it get done?
This position manages the New Mexico State Library's Broadband for Libraries Program and supports broadband applications for the New Mexico State Library and New Mexico's public libraries and manages the Library Broadband Infrastructure Fund, including procurement of consultant support. It also conducts or procures professional development workshops for libraries on broadband topics; provides consultant support to libraries to facilitate effective digital equity efforts; and leads digital equity special projects and grant-funded projects, including distance learning, literacy, digital literacy, and telemedicine.

Who are the customers?
This job supports public library directors, state library staff, and rural services patrons.

Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate would have experience with broadband and general IT support. We would like them to have excellent customer service and communication when working with vendors and library staff, and a willingness to learn the unique needs of public and tribal libraries.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in any field and four (4) years of experience in information technology or business analysis. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below. PMI-PBA certification may be substituted for one year of education.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.  Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage. Travel statewide required.  Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
