Good day, all.
Here is a more detailed schedule of the upcoming field trip to UNM-HSLIC (I've also attached a PDF copy).
I will be sending out the official RSVP link by this Friday morning. That will ask you what you are wanting for your lunch as well as gather information for your parking pass.
I hope as many people as possible can attend. Everyone presenting is super excited. And, bonus, everyone will be there in person (fun, since I've never met Jonathan Pringle in person 🙂).

Tribal Libraries Program Field Trip

Program Schedule


8:45     Arrivals
Enjoy coffee and pastries while settling in and getting ready for the day.

9:00     Welcome and Introductions
Meet Melissa Rethlefsen, Executive Director, Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center (HSLIC), introduce yourself to fellow participants, and learn more about the day’s proceedings.

9:20     Library Tour
Amy Weig-Pickering, Librarian Specialist III, will provide attendees with a library tour complete with the opportunity to learn more about the library’s historical collections from Abbie Weiser, Archivist, as well as the library’s technology from Rachel Howarth, Librarian Specialist III.

10:00   MedlinePlus
Norice Lee, Associate Library Director, Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, Las Cruces, will introduce an overview of this accessible online information resource from the National Library of Medicine that provides plain-language information and patient education materials on a variety of health topics.

10:30   Native Health Database
Jonathan Pringle, Scholarly Communications and Digital Librarian, will introduce this important resource containing bibliographic information and abstracts of health-related articles, reports, surveys, and other resource documents pertaining to the health and health care of American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Canadian First Nations.

11:00   Break

11:15   Health Extension Resource Office (HERO)
Carla Sakiestewa, Senior Operations Manager, Interdisciplinary Science Co-op, and Affiliate HERO, Office of Community Health, will provide an overview of a UNM Program linking local health needs with UNM resources via community partners.

11:45   Center for Development and Disability (CDD)
Emily Roberts, Library Services Coordinator, will introduce the state’s only federally funded Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service and present an overview of the center’s publicly available resources.

12:15   Lunch
Lunch will be catered by Panera Bread and a selection of beverages will be available.

1:15     Center for Native American Health (CNAH)
Norman J. Cooeyate, Tribal Relations Liaison, will provide an overview of a key UNM center that partners with students, staff, faculty, community groups, organizations, and government agencies to develop sustainable solutions and creative pathways for improving the health and well-being of Indigenous people.

1:45     PubMed
Deborah Rhue, Clinical Services Librarian, will introduce this National Library of Medicine resource that provides citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life sciences journals, and online books.  Some citations include links to full-text content.

2:15     Choose Your Own Adventure
Ingrid Hendrix, Division Head, Research, Education, and Clinical Information Services, will lead an open session providing all participants with the opportunity to ask questions and discuss any additional topics of interest

2:45     Opportunities and Wrap Up
Deirdre Caparoso, Outreach and Community Engagement Librarian, will go over additional library opportunities in the state and Cassandra Osterloh, Tribal Libraries Coordinator, New Mexico State Library, will discuss any additional Tribal Libraries Program business.
