Hi,
I am forwarding an announcement from NMPBS of an author event open to public librarians...
Best,
Eli
_______________

Please join this special workshop hosted by NMPBS and New Mexico State Library for high school English and social studies teachers. Public and school librarians are welcome, too. Choose one of two dates! Tuesday June 22 at 10 AM or Thursday June 24 at 3 PM.

Hemingway: WWI and Facts into Fiction<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/two-free-teacher-workshops-ken-burns-hemingway-and-new-mexico-writers-registration-154886294075>

The event will be led by Santa Fe writer, James McGrath Morris<https://jamesmcgrathmorris.com/>. Morris is a former high school teacher and author of The Ambulance Drivers: Hemingway, Dos Passos, and a Friendship Made and Lost in War.

Because of his writing style, Ernest Hemingway, one of the 20th century's most famous writers, remains a very accessible author to young readers. Although some of the "manly" nature of his writing may be off putting to female students, his terse, unadorned manner of writing remains influential to all genders. In this lesson, designed by Santa Fe author James McGrath Morris, students will discover how Hemingway used his personal experience in a World War I battle to create his novel Farewell to Arms. Further students will explore how three New Mexican authors used aspects of war in their fiction. In doing so, students will consider how they too could use elements from their lives to write fiction.

James McGrath Morris will use not only Hemingway's work, but also his own book and the work of three other New Mexico authors, N. Scott Momaday, Rudolfo Anaya and Leslie Marmon Silko.

We hope you can make it!

Cheers,

NMPBS
