<p style="background:white"><span style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black">Because of his writing style, Ernest Hemingway, one of the 20th century’s most famous writers, remains a very accessible author to young readers. Although
 some of the “manly” nature of his writing may be off putting to female students, his terse, unadorned manner of writing remains influential to all genders. In this lesson, designed by Santa Fe author James McGrath Morris, students will discover how Hemingway
 used his personal experience in a World War I battle to create his novel<strong><i><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif""> Farewell to Arms</span></i></strong>. Further students will explore how three New Mexican authors used aspects of war in their
 fiction. In doing so, students will consider how they too could use elements from their lives to write fiction.</span><span style="font-size:7.5pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif";color:black"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
