Hello Tribal Library Directors,
I promise, I am not trying to fill up your inboxes before noon, but I have had several emails this morning that contained information that I thought might be of interest to you.  So I will try not to send any more emails to you all today (but I can’t promise, in the off chance that another email comes in that I think you all might have an interest). A week ago today, Beacon released "An Indigenous Peoples' History of the Unites States, for Young People."

Some of you may have read the adult version, written by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, that came out in 2014. Because teachers asked her and the publisher for one they could use in the classroom, Jean Mendoza and I were asked to do this adaptation. It took us 3 years. We're former teachers, parents of Native kids, and we both hold PhDs in Education. All of that, we brought to the adaptation.

It got starred reviews from Kirkus, School Library Journal, and Booklist.

It did really well last week, judging by Amazon's wonky "Best Seller" algorithms. It truly was at something like #408 in best sellers for a couple of days. Not best sellers in kids or Native books, but best sellers overall. That's pretty cool. It doesn't mean that millions of copies were sold. It means it was hot for a few days. Today its rank is 2766. Still pretty good for a book of its kind!

Anyway! I hope AILA folks get a copy for their libraries.

Pricing at Amazon is now at $17 or so. It was $13 for awhile. The mysteries of how Amazon functions...
