Sandberg. This adaptation invites the audience directly into the ambitious mind of Victor Frankenstein (Atticus Starritt) as he attempts to create life. This unique interpretation offers thrills for book lovers, gothic enthusiasts, and anyone in search of belonging.</span><div dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;"><pre class="message-text-plain" style="font-family: "Courier New", courier, monospace;">Director Ceil Herman uses the stage to its full potential, working with the strengths of the script. The story moves like a singular train of thought, gliding through the past, the present, and deep into Victor’s
subconscious mind. </pre><pre class="message-text-plain" style="font-family: "Courier New", courier, monospace;">Early on, it becomes clear that Victor is motivated by the love for his family, especially for that of his dead mother. Victor is driven to find the basis of life, which becomes only more tragic when he gets what he wants and instantly rejects it.
His creation, The Creature (Joshua Taulbee) haunting Victor from the moment he is born, is very complex, desiring love and companionship, but also capable doing evil. <br></pre><pre class="message-text-plain" style="font-family: "Courier New", courier, monospace;">As Victor’s lifelong companion, Elizabeth (Autry Rebekah)supports Victor’s ambitions. Elizabeth, however, is not a passive woman. It is through her love for him that she challenges Victor to progress forward, which also leads to her own tragedy. Victor’s Father, (Ed Montes) who is also Elizabeth’s adopted father, only lives for the happiness of his children.
The ties to family run even deeper with Karen Buerdsell, who takes on the roles of Justine, Victor’s Mother, and The Female Creature, which is the play’s biggest diversion from the source material.
The exploration of ego comes through in Joseluis Solorzano’s characters. He portrays both Victor’s Professor and Captain Robert Walton. The Professor is a shadow to Victor’s ambitions, wanting to predecessors who said he couldn’t do the impossible. Captain Walton, who in many ways resembles Victor’s boundless ambition, offers Victor a chance to redeem himself by relating the story.
Beyond the lens of pop culture, Frankenstein endures because of its rich themes of pride, ambition, and what tragic ends come when those are left
unchecked. This version of Frankenstein will please fans of Mary Shelley’s original text while newcomers will leave be engrossed by its rich ideas.</pre><pre class="message-text-plain" style="font-family: "Courier New", courier, monospace;">Scenic and Lighting Design for Frankenstein is by Peter Herman and Sound Design is by Joshua Taulbee and Ceil Herman. Autumn Gieb is the Stage Manager and designed the lovely period costumes. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays <span dir="ltr">at 8:00PM, Sunday</span> matinees <span dir="ltr">on May 10</span> and <span dir="ltr">May 17 at 2:30PM</span>, and a special Thursday performance <span dir="ltr">on May 14 at 7:00PM</span>.
