[Nstc] Nice People Dancing to Good Country Music opens NSTC 2023-24 Season

No Strings Theatre Company is pleased to open their 7 play 2023-2024 Season with the entertaining and very funny romantic comedy, Nice People Dancing to Good Country Music written by Lee Blessing and directed by NSTC’s Artistic Director, Ceil Herman. The production opens on Friday, August 25 and runs through Sunday, September 10. 

The lively Senior Amigos Line Dance Group consisting of Linda Enriquez, Julia Brogan, and Christella Rodriguez will dance prior to both performances during the openlng weekend, August 25 and August 26 at 8 pm.

Nice People Dancing to Good Country Music is set in Houston. Filled with colorful characters, the set description calls for an old pickup truck present in the parking lot of a good ole-boy bar. The pickup truck serves as an additional character in the play and is an important part of the first act. NSTC will be using Peter Herman’s own truck in the production.

Jim Stool’s (Genno Tafoya) rowdy drinking and fighting bar (the title of the play is the new name of the bar) has been renamed and cleaned up by his girlfriend Eva June (Laura Bever). A year earlier, Eva June and Jim met in Dallas Airport, and she left her Latvian scholar husband and her young son Jason and moved to Houston with Jim. Eva June made repaving the parking lot with no more motorcycles the conditions of their relationship. Stool’s sweet but annoying friend (Hunter Camp) has fallen in love instantly with Eva June’s niece Catherine (Penny Bever) who is visiting after being dismissed from her convent for using inappropriate language and barking like a dog. Meanwhile Eva June’s cocky 15 year old son (Charlie Bever), is constantly annoying Jim who wants kill him.

Peter Herman, NSTC’s Resident Designer, designed the set and lights for the production. His photographs of past productions are exhibited in thetheatregallery in the lobby of the Black Box. Bekah Taulbee and Karen Burdsell are the experienced board operators. 

Performances of Nice People Dancing to Good Country Music are August 25-September 10, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, with Sunday matinees on September 3and 10 at 2:30 pm, and a Thursday evening performance on September 7 at 7 pm. 

Tickets are $15.00 Regular admission and $12.00 for Students and Seniors over 65 and all seats on Thursday are $10.00.

Reservations can be made by calling the Black Box Theatre (575) 523-1223. Payment by cash or check is preferred when patrons pay the day of the performance.
