The January Newsletter was packed with great information - if you haven't had the chance to read it - Click here to access January Newsletter Inside you'll find information about our Youth Services Quarterly Book Club, Early Literacy Calendar, and Program Providers Database. I am loving our first Youth Services Book Club title - Truly Devious - it's a page-turner mystery! Find yourself a copy and plan to join us for a discussion in late February . You can find it on Hoopla -https://www.hoopladigital.com/title/12704453 [cid:9fef86a0-1e98-4be3-bae4-8b1a7c97a7b9] A VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE from the newsletter is that I will need to change the date of our January Monthly Youth Services Drop-In Meeting. The meeting will now be held on Friday, January 27 at 12noon. The rest of the schedule will remain unchanged. The UNM Center for Development and Disability is looking for Youth/Young Adults with disabilities to serve on a state-wide Advisory Committee. They reached out to me, recognizing that our public library staff would be an excellent resource in recommending folks due to our deep relationships within our communities. I am attaching the flyer to this email - please share with any patrons you think might be interested. They are hoping to have good representation from across the state. Due to an emergency, I will be out of the office next week, January 16-20. I will check email as I can, but please be patient with replies. When you install Porteus you can set it so there are no toolbars at the top of the screen (it is in forced full screen mode) and you can also set a whitelist of URLs that can be visited so that a user cannot navigate elsewhere online, even by accident. You can then set it to boot straight to a site like abcmouse.com/libraries and it will load right to that site when you turn the computer on. This would take a bit more technical know-how to set up, but then would be very low-maintenance from that point forward. I have done this to create a kids' catalog station at our library and it works great, but I haven't tried it for setting up a station like I described above. However, I'm definitely thinking about giving it a try when our current AWE stations aren't usable anymore.
