"Hi, I had a random question about finding a book I can?t remember the title or author of. It?s a real long shot as it was a book I read years ago in school and I can barely remember any details. I?ve tried googling and asking other reader friends to try to figure it out but no one seems to remember. I don?t think I have enough details but here goes! All I can really remember is it was a Middle Grade or Young Adult book about a young girl. She has a horse named Apple and she joins some type of war or just dangerous journey and ends up fighting enemies while hanging off the side of her horse and doing some impressive riding. I loved it as a young reader and I don?t think I ever got to finish it. I randomly think about it and it bothers me that I can?t remember the author or title to look it up again. It would?ve been roughly the early 2000?s. If you can think of what book that might be or leads in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated to solve the years-long mystery!" Exercise caution prior to clicking on links or opening attachments. Dear Mr. Guinnee, We are a research team from the University of Oklahoma (Dr. June Abbas, Dr. Yong Ju Jung, and Nikolaj Pavlovic), and we are conducting an IMLS-funded research project about public library maker programs for youth with disabilities. To help public libraries better serve youth with disabilities, we would like to hear from public libraries nationwide, and for doing so, we need your help. Could you please spread this survey invitation (see below) to public libraries in your state? If you have any questions regarding the survey, please do not hesitate to contact the project PI, Dr. June Abbas (jmabbas at ou.edu). Thank you very much. Best, June, Yong Ju, and Nikolaj --------- Are you responsible for developing and delivering makerspace or making programming and services in your library? Makerspaces are flourishing in public libraries, yet little is known about the inclusive programming being provided to library patrons, especially youth with disabilities. Makerspace programming can address inequities in underserved communities (including youth with disabilities), by providing access to various making technologies, skill acquisition through training, and peer and professional mentoring, each critical to today's youth with disabilities who plan to move into the workforce, but also essential for improving each youth's quality of life. Our research team, Drs. June Abbas and Yong Ju Jung from the School of Library & Information Studies at the University of Oklahoma, is conducting a national survey (funded by the Institute for Museum and Library Services) investigating the current state of programming, design, and accessibility of United States' public library makerspaces' programs for youth with disabilities. We invite you to participate in our survey by going to: https://ousurvey.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1Lig00rRn3jDZ1I . The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. We plan to present the results of the survey at a future ALA or PLA conference and to share our findings widely on social media and our project website. We want to hear from you about how your libraries are meeting this critical social need! If you have any questions about participating in the survey, please contact me at: jmabbas at ou.edu. Thank you for considering this invitation. Dr. June Abbas This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services IMLS # LG-252323-OLS-22. "The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation's libraries and museums. We advance, support, and empower America's museums, libraries, and related organizations through grantmaking, research, and policy development. Dynamics of Public Library Service in New Mexico Good Afternoon! Did you work in a public library during the pandemic? We need your knowledge! We are researching ways in which the pandemic has changed our libraries' approaches to meeting our communities' needs. What we learn will inform a Chapter we are submitting to a book called 'Reading' Workplace Dynamics: A Post-Pandemic Professional Ethos in Public Libraries. Our chapter is entitled 'Reading Resilience: Dynamics of Public Library Service in New Mexico.'" In New Mexico, public and tribal libraries built partnerships that played a strong role in making the "community" feel more real to individual residents, creating access to resources through diverse social networks, and improving overall the ability of our communities to survive, adapt, and respond in a time of great need. Librarians now operate with fresh lessons learned and new tools for diversifying and leveraging the resources they need to support the resilience of their communities. We are interested in hearing from YOU about your transformational experiences during the pandemic, and the changes and plans for your library that were generated by these pandemic experiences. Would you please take a few minutes to answer the survey questions at the link below? If you would, please consider also indicating that you would like to talk to us for 30 minutes on this subject via Zoom so we can further deepen our understanding. Thank you for taking time to share your story, and helping us highlight the amazing work New Mexican libraries do! Click here to provide your input by February 28. Thank you!
