I'm also the coordinator of our Book Group Kits to Go Program, where we provide "ready to wear" book group kits to libraries around the state of New Mexico, free of charge (return postage is required for libraries outside of San Juan County, and we do not mail kits to groups within San Juan County). You can find more information on the program, including a list of available kits, on our website (click me! ). While our collection of kits is primarily aimed at adults, we do have some kits that are labeled as YA or JF, including *The Case of the Missing Marques* and *They Called Us Enemy*. We do yearly development and maintenance on the collection, meaning that we can, budget and collections allowing, add material that would be used by our groups. We regularly add books from our programming. If this program sounds like something your library would be interested in, please let me know! We also have a multitude of movies and try to use them before going out to purchase specific ones (although our collection is kept up to date through donations of $5.00 movies that are found in Walmart bins). During the summer, we host movies during the day that are "kid friendly" and that go along with the CSRP theme (loosely). We also show family friendly movies in the evening that, too, loosely follow the summer reading program's theme. Annually we purchase the SWANK MOVIE LICENSING so that we are allowed to legally watch the newest and most popular films. This license costs about $600.00 a year. Here is the link for more information about the SWANK MOVIE LICENSE: https://www.swank.com/public libraries. Hope that helps! Margaret B. Hinchee Library Director Clovis-Carver Public Library 701 N. From: nmythserv-bounces at lists.zianet.com On Behalf Of Margaret Hinchee Sent: Wednesday, April 19, 2023 1:43 PM To: Library Director Cc: Nmlibs ; nmythserv at lists.zianet.com Subject: Re: Youth Services News [EXTERNAL] Re: [Nmlibs] movie nights at the library It's a great thing to have -in your collection - a slew of movies in your collection that can be used for any type of movie nights! Please let us know if you find out otherwise! Rather than trying to find movies people haven't seen, you might try making old favorites interactive, to increase the draw. There are a myriad of interactive movie scripts on the web. We try to get a recent release in the PG or lower range. We?re starting to bump up against the whole ?everything is on streaming,? issue and having a hard time finding movies we?re licensed for out on DVD in the right time frame (forget movies we?ve actually heard of). I?m not against figuring out how to stream movies, but because we haven?t done this before, I have concerns along the lines of: Do we just get Disney+ and cross our fingers, or sign up for Amazon this month and something else next? Is this something anyone else is running into? Suggestions? Solutions? We don?t have Hulu etc owing to the fact that we have over 4000 DVDs, most of them donated, so it would be something our budget doesn?t really need on the patron end.
