Examining Library Accessibility: The Basics
* This presentation will provide attendees with a toolkit and resources to help jump start their library's accessibility services. Participants will learn about the basics of awareness and training for accessibility work as well as some easy, inexpensive, and free ways to improve accessibility in their library.
* An overview of what our library's (Los Alamos Public Library System) accessibility team has researched and implemented will be shared to help provide examples of the issues, topics, and successes we have encountered.
* Finally, we will introduce a roadmap for accessibility work, to begin forming ideas and strategies for effecting lasting change in their own libraries.
Presenter Bios:
* Norma Covington: Norma is a Library Specialist and coordinator for the Accessibility Advisory Group at the Mesa Public Library in Los Alamos, NM. After many years of working in education and community programming, she earned a Master's degree in Library and Information Sciences from the University of North Texas, where she did independent studies on Accessibility in Graphic Novels. Her background working with families in the community has grown into an interest in improving accessibility and inclusive practices in the library and beyond.
* Audra Short: Audra is on her second lease of working life in the public library system. She has a Ph.D. from Cambridge University in molecular parasitology, and held positions as a library volunteer since high school and volunteered as an adult literacy coach. Now working in the Operations department at Los Alamos County Library, she is a coordinator of the library's home delivery service and assisted in the development and running of the library's curbside delivery service. She is passionate about reaching members of the community who can't always come to the library in person.
Eli Guinnee, NMSL is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
