I was asked to bring up at the Youth Services Zoom yesterday the possibility of libraries sharing the cost of virtual SRP performers and I did and it seemed like there was some interest. So, I created a Google Sheet for people to express their interest in performer sharing, I'm more than happy to matchmake libraries that have similar interests/needs and let you all work together to figure out the nitty gritty part. If there's a specific person or group you have in mind, you can list them or if you're just thinking musician or science demos, you can say that. There's 3 slots for performers you're interested in but if you are thinking of more, feel free to add to the sheet! I'll start putting people together as soon as you all start filling it out but there's no deadline on it so if you need to think about it or want to wait a little longer, feel free. It was brought up during the Summer Reading workshops that with the possibility of another year of virtual programs not everyone feels comfortable or has the know how to conduct programs so it got me thinking what could I do to help you all feel more comfortable. I created a Form for you all to fill out the areas of PD you're interest in and if you feel you have the know how to help conduct a program. I have never done a Facebook Live storytime but I know that lots of you have so I'm hoping you will help me! If there's anything else you feel you'd like to learn a little bit more about, you can add that in there as well. This is just at the information gathering stage and I will let you all know what comes of it! The link to the Form is: https://forms.gle/5Y5Qz9EkszhJbRCT8. And a huge thank you to everyone who volunteered for the Summer Reading software committee, I had more volunteers than needed so I picked a committee of people with different levels of experience using a platform before, different size libraries and different size communities. I emailed the committee this morning and hopefully we will have a decision on the software soon and can start training libraries on that! A conflicting legislative meeting has come up that I need to attend (usually noon is safe, but around the legislative session all bets are off). If you plan to attend, please use this time to consider three questions: 1. If you tend to save your GO Bond rather than spend it right away, what are some of the reasons? 2. What is one thing you wish every legislator knew about the funding or spending of GO Bonds for Libraries? 3. What are some ways we can better communicate these things? I look forward to talking about this next week, and again I apologies for such short notice on the postponement. Best, Eli P.S. CSLP (the summer reading program the state provides to libraries) will be working on a new strategic plan in the upcoming months and before they do that they're looking for input from members (that's all of you). To that end, I've created a Google Form where you can answer some questions about the impact of CSLP, the future of SRP and how they can better support you. The Form can be found at: https://forms.gle/FLeAJfA8pYXGSpm77 and you have until February 9th to fill it out. And below is a little bit about CSLP, in case you were wondering. Thanks! CSLP Mission: We empower libraries to foster community. CSLP Vision: We collaborate with libraries to create an inclusive literacy based program that is enjoyable for all ages, provide a reproducible program with a unified theme, share resources and offer professional support. What does CSLP currently do? 1. Develops and popularizes a national summer reading theme and slogan. 2. Commissions artwork from a nationally known artist to be used by its member libraries in support of their summer reading programming 3. Creates and sells products that traditionally have supported summer reading programs. 4. Creates and sells a program manual with ideas to support and inspire library programming. 5. Provides a framework for librarians to participate in the development of the products and manual. 6. Provides a framework for librarians to collaborate on projects and issues surrounding summer reading. CSLP invests a significant amount of volunteer time, staff time, and monetary resources into all of its activities and materials. It is very important to the CSLP Board of Directors that the outcomes of these investments are supportive and relevant to both the library community and the patrons they serve. The project is generously funded through the National Science Foundation (NSF). Through the STAR Net STEAM Equity Project, library partners will each receive $15,000 over four years to participate in professional development activities, support community collaborations and purchase STEAM learning materials. In partnership with library staff and their community collaborators, the project will empower tweens and their families to pursue equitable STEAM learning and career paths by leveraging their existing strengths, interests, and diverse cultures. Selected libraries will host the following traveling STEAM exhibitions and develop associated programs and outreach kits with their collaborators and community members.
