Hi, Lillian--

We did this in the summer, and again in the fall.

The teens who read the stories belonged to their student council. They came
up with the idea as a way to encourage younger children, and they
approached me. They enjoyed doing it so much in the summer that a couple of
the teens wanted to do it again. They selected the stories and did their
own recordings, which they delivered to me by way of a USB drive. Their
videos included some information that they were a service project from the
student council. (In your case, since you are seeking teens to participate,
perhaps a release form would be suitable. It couldn't hurt!)

I generally remove story videos monthly. I feel these are fair use
educational programs, much like an in-library program, and I have done some
research on it. I know there is some controversy amongst librarians. The
ONLY time I got a message was when I posted a toddler video that included a
musical recording for which I actually had permission! (I think Facebook
generated it automatically, because it wasn't from a musician or recording
company.)

I don't know if it matters, but I don't mention the books I'll be reading
for story time in my FB event posts; instead, I feature whatever our
general topic is, along with a photo of the craft. I haven't had any issues
with publishers or authors contacting me about it. I can't imagine there is
a dedicated person at the publishing company combing through hundreds of
library social media pages looking for potential copyright infringement
issues. If you have concerns about legal issues, perhaps you could contact
the legal counsel for your organization. If you have the go-ahead from
your library director, that is his or her area to be responsible for.
