Youth Services News Statewide Summer Reading software

Good afternoon Youth Services staff!
The New Mexico State Library is proud to offer a statewide Summer Reading software platform, Zoobean,<https://www.beanstack.com/libraries?_ga=2.222318875.1031693879.1613585213-754203651.1603993327> for SRP 21! This is a completely voluntary service, no library is required or expected to sign up. If your library is one of the ones chosen, you will work with Zoobean (and I will help!) to implement a site that is specific just for your library. You'll be able to set the reading challenges- so if you want minutes versus hours versus chapters, that's up to you and your library. We will offer lots of training opportunities and the service will be available for 365 days so you'll be able to hold winter reading programs or things like 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten!

This is the pilot year so we are unable to cover every library in the state. We have an amount of money and each library costs a certain amount based on your legal service area, so we'll take libraries who are serious about implementing this for SRP 21 on a first come, first serve basis until we run out of money. I'm hoping it's successful this year, libraries and patrons like it and I can lobby for more money next year.

Please take some time to think about this seriously before throwing your hat into the ring. (Last summer we had almost 30 libraries sign up for the statewide Summer Reading Google Form and only half ended up participating in that.) If this is something your library is interested in, there's a Form (of course) https://forms.gle/wJ3GJZ7xVKARb8bN6 and you have one week from today to fill it out (2/24/21 5 PM). Talk to your administrators, coworkers, anyone else who might be interested.

I'm sure there are A LOT of questions, so please don't hesitate to reach out- you could even reply to this email for the whole list to see because if you have a question, I'm sure someone else does too. We have a handful of libraries in NM who have used this software before and might be able to chime in on the actual product itself.
