Youth Services News [EXT] DVD storage

We used to use the plastic locking security cases. We decided to stop in
order to make more shelf space. The cases take a lot of space.

 

We got binders with pages of DVD pockets, four DVD pockets on each side of
each page. This worked for a while though it sometimes required some
shifting of DVDs from pocket to pocket to make room for a six-disc set.
Generally each DVD was supposed to have an assigned pocket. Staff feedback
largely focused on the binders being awkward to move, or a bit heavy.

Whichever storage system is used, training is important to ensure the discs
are filed in correct order, or else you're trying to find them when a patron
is waiting.

We use the locking cases from Demco - everything is on the shelf, and the
cases are unlocked at check-out.

We are wondering how other Libraries store their DVD's? Right now we have
the DVD cases on the shelves for patrons to browse thru and the discs behind
the front counter in sleeves in a filing cabinet. How does your library
store and display DVD's?
