Good morning Youth Services staff!
I sent the email below to the State Reps of CSLP regarding the committee for artwork 2022 (I'm chairing that committee) and we're also looking for frontline librarians so if you're interested, please read the call and fill out the application.
________________________________
It's time to convene the committee for artwork 2022 (Oceans of Possibilities). We are looking for both State Reps and frontline librarians so please share the call below with the librarians in your states and let Luke or me know if you have any questions! Deadline to submit applications is October 9th, 5 PM EDT.
In an effort to be better and more culturally authentic, CSLP is forming a new Artwork Committee consisting of both State Representatives and frontline librarians who can evaluate and offer thoughtful criticism of sketches.
Committee makeup:
8-12 members, both State Reps and frontline librarians
Charge:
CSLP is looking for people to volunteer for the 2022 Artwork Committee. Committee members will be expected to look at sketches for program year 2022 (Oceanography, Oceans of Possibility, artist Sophie Blackall) and evaluate them from a culturally authentic viewpoint and provide constructive criticism to ensure posters and spot art are inclusive and reflective of the diverse communities we serve.
Timeline:
September-October: application period
Late October: Zoom meeting with committee to discuss charge, expectations
November:
Receive first draft of sketches from artist
Zoom meeting with committee to discuss first impressions and thoughts
Cooperative Children's Book Center receives sketches to offer feedback as well
Period of time to provide feedback to committee Chair
Feedback given to artist
January:
Receive second draft of sketches from artist
Zoom meeting with committee to discuss first impressions and thoughts
Period of time to provide feedback to committee Chair
Feedback given to artist
March 1: Receive final artwork from artist
Please complete the Artwork Committee application found at: https://forms.gle/sSZJViRkzwYnLhUm8. Part of the application includes 2 images from children's literature. What feedback would you give the artist if these images were submitted? What sticks out or resonates with you? What might a child take away from these images? There is no right or wrong answer, we are just hoping to see your thought process in evaluating the artwork and providing thoughtful and constructive feedback.
