And a reminder that vouchers are due NEXT Friday the 13th and please don't wait until the last minute to get your order in because I will not be working that day which means no email checking if you're having problems. I've gotten a couple questions on manuals and no, you do not need to purchase your own. I have the USBs, I'm just waiting on catalogs from CSLP to mail them. I hope *fingers crossed* that I'll have them out before Thanksgiving but it's not really up to me at this point. If you'd like a paper manual, feel free to purchase one using your own funds but the voucher will not cover the cost of that. If you have any questions between now and then, don't hesitate to reach out! Don't forget to take some time for self-care and do something that makes you smile (for me, today, that's listening to New Kids on the Block)! See y'all next week! I've been investigating various online reading software platforms (Wandoo Reader, Read Squared, Zoobean/Beanstack) for the possibility of a statewide contract for Summer Reading 2021. Before we get too far down this road, I'm curious if this is something you're all even interested in! There's a couple different options if we do move forward- one is a statewide site where patrons would choose from a drop down menu and enter their info that way. That means we would have to all be doing the same thing (reading minutes, chapters, books, etc.). The other option is individual sites for each library to pick what kind of reading challenge they want. I've created a quick survey to find out if this is a thing you even want and/or would take advantage of: https://forms.gle/PTZ8pfiNz5jwSUK49. Please fill this out by next Friday, the 20th. And a reminder that SRP 21 vouchers are due THIS Friday, the 13th. I will be out that day and NOT checking email so if you have a problem and a question, it will not get answered and you will miss out on placing your order. There have been 2 main problems that I've been getting lots of emails about: * Vouchers not covering the entire cost: this usually means you have unallowable items in your cart- vouchers will ONLY cover LSTA allowable items. Make sure your total says "$0.00" before hitting submit. If not, you will be charged and responsible for paying for or cancelling those items. Step 3 on the instructions tells you how to avoid this problem. * Vouchers not valid: this usually is mistyping the voucher code, mistaking a lowercase L for the number one. I will take the blame for this, the font I use makes those two characters look identical. All of your vouchers start with nm2021(this is the number one)l(this is a lowercase L)sta and is then followed by a code unique to your library. If you have either of these problems, I hope this helps. And if not, please don't hesitate to reach out to me (just not on Friday the 13th because you will not receive an answer!). Along with the change, we decided a different name would be appropriate. So, beginning today, we'll be opening up the Librarians' Lounge at noon each Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday. I just received the summary of all of your CSLP voucher orders for SRP 21 and there was a quite a bit of money left on the table. Normally I use this money to purchase items for the giveaways and that's still the plan but this year I want your input on the items that are up for giveaways. As usual, I've created a Google Form asking for your input on which items I should purchase for giveaways using the LSTA allowable items found at https://www.cslpreads.org/product-category/lsta-allowable/new-mexico/. In addition, there's a question asking what your library would purchase with an additional $20 in voucher money (using the same LSTA site). I'll pick 25 libraries that answer that question and purchase that item(s) for them (and ship when I'm allowed back in the office) https://forms.gle/fk5cq6UHS189UnoDA. I'll put all the entries into my new favorite toy- The Wheel of Names at next week's Youth Services Zoom (11/24) and call the winners (you don't have to be present to win but it'd be more fun if you were!)! Message-ID: Good morning Youth Services staff, I hope you're all doing well and staying safe during our latest stay at home order! I do have online access for everyone, though, even if you did request a USB. I'm more than happy to start emailing out online access codes and instructions if you'd like them. Or you can wait for your USB- either way works for me and I created a Form for you to request which version you would like right now https://forms.gle/nqzyhUav2UnQzdhH9. Please fill it out as soon as possible, I'll close it next week before the holiday. * There's also another Form going on right now regarding products for giveaways: * I just received the summary of all of your CSLP voucher orders for SRP 21 and there was a quite a bit of money left on the table. This is a first come, first serve Zoom (they have room for 200 people) and if you can't make it or it's filled up it will be recorded and available for viewing later on. * Are you trying to figure out how to make your library more accessible? Do you need help planning programming for children who need adaptations to use the library or to attend an event? The Collaborative Summer Reading Program's Diversity and Inclusion committee has invited Kaitlyn Hodges (Special Needs Librarian at Virginia Beach Public Library) and Kelsey Dunckle (Librarian at Harris County Public Library) to show us some of their ideas. The one-page CSLP Summer Meals Talking Points Flyer includes brief talking points and a quick to-do checklist. It's an easy-to-digest introduction for summer meals advocates to share with coworkers, library administration, Board, community officials, and prospective partners. It's now available for download on the CSLP website. Find it on the Library and Summer Food resource list here: https://www.cslpreads.org/libraries-and-summer-food/#resource or direct download here: https://www.cslpreads.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/cslp-summer-meals-talking-points-flyer.pdf (PDF download). That's a lot for today but it's all really good, useful stuff! As always, if you have questions or just want to reach out and chat, I'm here for you all! Please stay home if you can, wear a mask and avoid large gatherings (I know it's hard with Thanksgiving next week but it really is a life or death decision these days).
