We had a three-phase plan and with the closure of schools last might we hit phase three!

  * I have removed all stuffed animals and puppets to get their quarterly wash and sent them on vacation to the shed.
  * Today I am removing all the puppets and toys and having them join the puppets
  * Not officially announced yet, but no more programs
  * I have a blog with stories and activities for each day, I will revamp that and post each day to our Facebook page so patrons can do story times at home
  * Limiting check-out of board games and learning kits to three per household, as we expect a huge run on them over the next couple days!
  * Of course wiping down keyboards, board books, and high use areas frequently.

One note! I have seen some libraries say they are putting out coloring pages and crayons in lieu of toys. Have you seen where those crayons go? I will be going through all my files and pulling out leftover crafts, and making up take-home craft kits, possibly also STEM kits (spoon catapults and the like). We got a grant for some of those to take into the schools, but since I can't go into the schools...

Good morning Youth Services staff!
I received the message below and thought I'd send it to the listserv and let you all comment about what you and your libraries are doing. Please feel free to reply to the whole list.

Hi, Deanne. I just want to reach out and start a conversation about how libraries are approaching cautionary measures from corona virus.
Libraries as we know are touchy feely places with all our check out resources that pass from hand to hand and home to home. Additionally our library has a lot of options for kiddos. We have toys, building blocks etc. I am mostly just wondering if we can exchange some strategies for decreasing vulnerability to this new virus.

Here are some things I've been doing:

Cleaning the toys
whipping down kids computers
putting up a few signs to encourage parents to encourage kids to wash hands before and after library use

I don't mean to be paranoid, but its pretty clear to see that libraries and children's sections are high use and the type of environment worthy of concern.

Anyway, I'd love to hear about what other precautions are being taken at libraries.
