Hello Youth Services staff-

I'm writing today to see if anyone is interested in participating in a two year IMLS funded, YALSA-led Train the Trainer initiative. This is a nationwide project led by YALSA in cooperation with COSLA (Chief Officers of State Library Agencies). All 50 states and Territories will be a part of the program that will train library staff around the state in new approaches related to Young Adult library services.

The selected individual would travel with me to one of two train the trainer workshops along with a national cohort of like-minded folks from state agencies as well as frontline practitioners to learn about connected learning, computational thinking and teen services. The individual would need to attend (expenses paid) a 2 ½ day training, on September 28-30 in Seattle or October 27-29 in Chicago (I'm flexible on which training to attend and willing to work with the chosen candidate on which date best suits their needs), participate in a monthly cohort call and conduct ten training sessions (30 hours of professional development) for library staff during the project term. These training sessions can be done alongside me or limited to a specific region or library system to help defray costs. The estimated average weekly time commitment is 2-3 hours, with significant variations. The participating librarian will need to have all costs of the in-state training covered by their library; the State Library and the grant are unable to cover costs beyond the 2.5 days initial train the trainer session as well as a follow-up conference in Fall 2020.

The New Mexico State Library will need to submit an application including the name of the frontline librarian that will be participating along with me by May 31st; we need to make the selection of one front line practitioner by May 24th in order to complete the required paperwork.

Please let me know if you are interested in participating, and have the time and support to attend and conduct training sessions. It is shaping up to be a terrific professional development activity. We are only able to select one individual to participate.

As always, thank you for your time and call or email with any questions.
