</span></b></p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">On <b>Thursday, March 23<sup>th</sup>, </b> the brown bag series will feature
<b>Dr. Vincent Werito</b>, <b>Patrick Werito, M.Ed.</b>, and <b>Elroy B. Keetso, M.C.R.P.</b></p>
<p style="line-height:15.0pt"><b><i><u>Partnerships for Addressing Health Disparities: Using a Diné (Indigenous) centered Approach in Community Engaged Research to Promote Community Well-being and Educational Sovereignty</u></i></b></p>
<p style="line-height:15.0pt">The presentation presents on research projects addressing critical isses in behavioral mental health, community public health, and community leadership using a Diné-centered approach to community engagement and research. Using
a Diné centered community based participatory research (CBPR) approach, the studies aim to develop transformative ways for engaging local community members to move towards community rebuilding, educational sovereignty, and strategic planning for Diné (Indigenous)
communities to recover and revitalize their languages and traditional ecological knowledge for long term community wellbeing.</p>
<p style="line-height:15.0pt"><b><i><u>Dr. Vincent Werito</u></i></b></p>
<p style="line-height:15.0pt">is an Associate Professor in the College of Education and Health Sciences at the University of New Mexico in the Department of Language, Literacy, and Socio-cultural Studies. Dr. Werito’s past research examines the experiences
of Indigenous youth in education, identifying exemplary practices in the education of Indigenous youth, and his most recent research projects were funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to examine community engaged research partnerships, community
defined understandings of wellbeing, and vaccine equity. He is a co-author of the book titled, Transforming Diné Education and he has also published in the Journal of American Indian Education, Journal of Language, Identity and Education and Health Education
& Behavior. He continues to work with schools in New Mexico and abroad to develop culture- and place-based culturally responsive approaches to education and language revitalization with Indigenous communities.</p>
<p style="line-height:15.0pt"><b><i><u>Elroy B. Keetso, M.C.R.P.</u></i></b></p>
<p style="line-height:15.0pt">Elroy is an enrolled tribal member of the Navajo Nation. He is a member of the Nihoobáanii (Gray-Streak-Ends) clan, born for the Tsé Nahabiłnii (Sleeping-Rock People) clan, originally from the community of Counselor, NM. He
received a B.U.S. degree with emphases in Native American Studies, American History, and Political Science in 2004 and an M.C.R.P in Community and Economic Development from the School of Community and Regional Planning at the University of New Mexico (UNM)
in 2013. He also received a graduate certificate in Historic Preservation and Regionalism from the UNM in 2013. Elroy has worked as a Planner for over 12 years for various Pueblo governments. Elroy has also worked in the legal field, supporting tribal legal
matters for over six years. Elroy is employed with the New Mexico State Indian Affairs Department as a Capital Outlay Manager in the Administrative Services Division.

<p style="line-height:15.0pt"><b><i><u>Patrick Werito, M.Ed.</u></i></b></p>
<p style="line-height:15.0pt">Patrick has been with Dual Language Education of New Mexico (DLeNM) for the past four years as the Coordinator of Tribal Initiatives. In his role, he provides support to schools with Indigenous language programs serving tribal
communities. With Indigenous communities facing the challenge of maintaining and preserving their heritage languages, DLeNM believes in partnering with tribal communities to begin shifting the paradigm of elevating the urgency for language revitalization and
producing the next generation of speakers.</p>
