Director's Corner

As we wind down the holiday season, I want to express my gratitude to all of the people and teams who make up our New Mexico broadband community. Our OBAE staff has accomplished a tremendous amount this year for which I am very grateful and proud to be part of such an extraordinary team. I'd also like to extend our thanks to the many partners, stakeholders, advocates and community members who make this work possible. Broadband is about connection and during this time of the year, we recognize the magnitude and importance of bringing folks together more than ever. Wishing all a happy new year!

Drew Lovelace, Acting Director

Recent Events: New Mexico Broadband Summit

Acting Director Lovelace and members of the team recently participated in the 2023 NM Broadband Summit presented by the New Mexico Chamber of Commerce and Kelly Cable of New Mexico.

The highly successful day-long event brought together ISPs, industry experts, government officials from all levels, tribal entities, rural electric cooperatives, rural telecommunications cooperatives, and business leaders who participated in discussions and panels aimed at expanding high-speed internet throughout New Mexico. OBAE was pleased to contribute to the day's events through presentations, resource sharing and staff engagement. Federal agencies and state partners including the Departments of Transportation and Workforce Solutions were also key participants in the day's events, providing important updates and workshops.

New Mexico Legislative Session 2024

January 16 is the opening day of the Second Session of the state's 56th Legislature. The 30-day session is budget-focused though OBAE intends to pursue several bills to enhance broadband infrastructure and opportunities including Rights of Way legislation.

Additionally, we're excited to share that the Second Annual Broadband Day at the state capitol will take place on January 24. Please save the date!
