The Indigenizing Archival Training (IAT) project, a Mellon Foundation-funded project administered by the Society of American Archivists’ Native American Archives Section, seeks a Regional Coordinator to assist with travel logistics for participants, booking spaces, planning in-person activities, and setting up/taking down event spaces. The program is designed to disseminate archival principles and best practices driven by Indigenous values and traditional stewardship practices of communities. The Regional Coordinator needs to have good knowledge of event spaces and vendors in the Santa Fe region. Duties performed will take place between March-October 2023.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  *   Coordinating space bookings for in-person workshop.
  *   Coordinating with service/event vendors including caterers, furniture rental, hotels/venues, technology needs, hospitality.
  *   Planning in-person itineraries for participants.
  *   Serving as initial point-of-contact for travel logistics to workshop.
  *   Communicating regularly with workshop planners.
  *   Coordinating event set-up, including equipment, technology, and catering needs.

Basic Qualifications

  *   Knowledge of local Santa Fe region.
  *   Experience with project management, event-planning, or coordination.
  *   Demonstrated success working in project teams collaboratively, with multiple levels of staff, colleagues, and community constituencies.
  *   Experience working with Native and Indigenous (or other BIPOC) communities.
  *   Ability to work independently, manage time, and work to deadlines.
  *   Comfort with using and learning technology including video meetings, Google Drive, and other shared document platforms.
  *   Demonstrated commitment to values of openness, diversity, inclusion, innovation, and social justice.

Preferred Qualifications

  *   Experience implementing site-specific programming and events in Santa Fe region.
  *   Can use own car for local travel (reimbursed at government rate).
  *   Knowledge of current trends, guidelines, and approaches in Indigenous community archiving, including the Protocols for Native American Archival Materials.
  *   Familiarity with Indigenous digital community archiving tools and projects, such as Mukurtu, or examples of tools or projects.
  *   Experience using 360 degree video conference camera or other hybrid meeting technologies.
  *   Knowledge of Tribal governance or leadership structure.

Location

  *   Santa Fe, New Mexico

Time Status

  *   Part-time (max. 10 hours/week)
  *   Term limited and grant funded
  *   As a part-time position, this job does not include benefits

Supervision

  *   The Regional Coordinator will report jointly to members of the project team and to staff at the Society of American Archivists.

Compensation

  *   $35/hr for up to 10 hrs/week. Duration is approximately 24 weeks.
  *   Reimbursement will be provided for required travel.
