SAR and Grounded in Clay Featured in Hyperallergic Article

In a March 8 article in the popular online arts forum Hyperallergic, Joelle E. Mendoza wrote a compelling piece about the Grounded in Clay<https://bbox.blackbaudhosting.com/webforms/linkredirect?srcid=46501400&srctid=1&erid=-1651256028&trid=7a4bd703-aae3-49b7-abc2-d99e707a6e01&linkid=267755176&isbbox=1&pid=0> exhibition, SAR, and how the Guidelines for Collaboration created by the Indian Arts Research Center has been put into practice.

Mendoza notes, "Grounded in Clay communicates community histories and experiences through poetics and dialogue. I found out, not surprisingly, that generating this collective dialogue between pots and people is achieved with a lot of intentional labor and love."

Grounded in Clay is on exhibit at the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture in Santa Fe and will remain on view there through May 29, 2023. The exhibition will then travel to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Vilcek Foundation in New York where it will open in July.

Grounded in Clay: The Spirit of Pueblo Pottery was curated by the Pueblo Pottery Collective and organized by the School for Advanced Research and the Vilcek Foundation.

Call for Pueblo Fiber Artists for the 12th Annual Pueblo Fiber Arts Show | April 14 Deadline

The Poeh Cultural Center, in partnership with the School for Advanced Research and the New Mexico Pueblo Fiber Arts Guild, are pleased to announce a call for artists for the 12th Annual Pueblo Fiber Arts Show on Saturday, May 27, 2023.

The mission of the Pueblo Fiber Arts Guild is to promote, revive, and maintain the age-old Pueblo fiber arts tradition among Pueblo communities and educate the general public about the importance of this ancient art form.

Artists can apply at poehcenter.org/fiberarts. The deadline to apply is April 14.

Exhibition Opening: With the Grain at the New Mexico Museum of Art

Opening Celebration Includes Live Music and an Artist Conversation

Saturday, March 18

The afternoon will start with a Members’ Preview of the new exhibition at 4:00 p.m. followed by the public opening starting at 5:00 p.m. Enjoy music by Lone Piñon from 5:15–6:00 p.m. At 6:00 p.m. Christian Waguespack will be joined by artist Luis Barela for a conversation in the galleries.

With The Grain explores the dialogue between artists and their materials at play in the work of modern and contemporary Hispanic carvers in Northern New Mexico at the intersection of materials, form, practice, and place.
