CARLISLE INDIAN SCHOOL SUMMER WORKSHOP, hosted by the Carlisle Indian School Digital Resource Center, Dickinson College


June 14-16, 2023 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania

>From 1879 to 1918, nearly 7800 students from as many as 200 different Native American communities were enrolled at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School, located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The lasting impact and legacy of Carlisle and the larger Indian boarding school movement is an important part of American history that warrants continued exploration, discussion, and dissemination.

The CISDC team is convening a free summer workshop for up to 12 participants, to be held June 14-16, at Dickinson College in Carlisle. Supported by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the workshop is specifically designed for tribal librarians, archivists, museum curators, and Tribal Historic Preservation Officers to learn more about the materials available through the digital project, to understand the context of those materials among the large body of extant documentation about the school, and to hear the latest information that the CISDRC team has learned from these extant records.
