Hyperallergic Lists Grounded in Clay as One of the "Top 50 Exhibitions of 2022"

Grounded in Clay: The Spirit of Pueblo Pottery<https://bbox.blackbaudhosting.com/webforms/linkredirect?srcid=45403537&srctid=1&erid=-1704152230&trid=9119c824-82e0-4143-8849-0c9a72f4aeb0&linkid=266287463&isbbox=1&pid=0> has been recognized as one of the top fifty exhibitions of 2022 by the influential online arts forum Hyperallergic (the odd title meaning "sensitive to art and its discontents"). You'll find Grounded in Clay at number twenty six on the list.

Grounded in Clay opened at the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture in Santa Fe in July 2022 and will remain on view there through May 2023. The exhibition will then travel to other institutions throughout the United States, opening in July at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Vilcek Foundation in New York.

Grounded in Clay: The Spirit of Pueblo Pottery was curated by the Pueblo Pottery Collective and organized by the School for Advanced Research and the Vilcek Foundation.

Twelve Tips for Item Care in Your Home

After teaching an SAR member class in early December, Caring for Your Personal Collections at Home: An Introduction to Collections Care, I realized how busy everyday life is with constant acceleration and not much time for the brake pedal. Carving out daily time by even alleviating one item off your agenda can go a long way for self and item care. Maybe that extra inch of time can assist in properly caring for cherished items in your home?

Past and present, we are a culture of collecting. That may come in the form of use for special occasions, your child’s artwork, to items that were passed down in a family every generation, or possibly it is that newly purchased piece of pottery or a painting from your favorite artist. Regardless of the background, every item has special importance, memories and a story to tell, so, what are some tips to help preserve them?

Resident Scholar Robert Weiner Presents His Research on Roads, Religion, and Power in the Chaco World

Robert Weiner, PhD Candidate, Department of Anthropology, University of Colorado, Boulder; SAR’s 2022 Paloheimo Fellow

Rob Weiner bridges archaeology, cultural anthropology, cognitive science, and religious studies to investigate the role of roads associated with Chaco Canyon in the U.S. Southwest. His research explores issues of monumentality, power, and religion, asking how roads—and specifically, the practices carried out along them—contributed to Chaco’s unequal, regionally-influential society.
