NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson recently shared a message and a video on the importance of artful lives:

This concept of artful lives is one I have been advancing during my time as chair of the NEA. It encompasses both the creation and consumption of professional art, as well as the ways that arts and culture are a part of our everyday lived experiences of making, doing, teaching, and learning. Grants for Arts Projects is the principal grants program of the National Endowment for the Arts for organizations based in the United States. Through project-based funding, the program supports public engagement with, and access to, various forms of art across the nation, the creation of art, learning in the arts at all stages of life, and the integration of the arts into the fabric of community life.

New Staffing Assignments

In October 2022, the NEA announced staffing changes to strengthen its position as a national resource and further the Agency’s work in equity, access, and inclusion. The changes included the reassignments of two longtime NEA employees to newly created positions, effective October 9, 2022.

Ayanna Hudson, who served as the acting deputy chair for programs and partnerships since January 2021 and previous to that as NEA arts education director, stepped into the new role of chief strategy, programs, and engagement officer.

Jen Hughes, who served as the director of design and creative placemaking, assumed the new position of senior advisor to the chair on partnerships, expansion, and innovation.

Together, these new positions demonstrate the NEA’s commitment to equity and underserved communities; strengthening partnerships between national, regional, state, and local communities; and enhancing the NEA’s role as a national resource.

Kate Morgan, Assistant Grants Management Specialist
In November 2022, Kate Morgan assumed the role of assistant grants management specialist for Arts Education. Kate graduated through the combined BA/MA program in Public History at American University in 2020/21. She grew up through arts education in South Jersey: dance, show/choir, band, musical theater, and more. Kate’s home theater company is Mainstage Center for the Arts, where she attended as a camper since the fourth grade and eventually worked on staff for three summers as a choreographer. Some of her past theatrical highlights include Beth March (Little Women), Dorothy Gale (The Wizard of Oz), and Ariel (The Little Mermaid).
