The report is an in-depth look at how IMLS aligns its strategic priorities with practice.

“Throughout fiscal year 2022, IMLS has focused on community collaboration and the importance of delivering government services to those most in need, which is the core meaning of equity,” said IMLS Director Crosby Kemper. “As our nation looks toward the commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the Agency has been working with the National Constitution Center, the AASLH (American Association for State and Local History), and USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) and other partners to develop programs and events that explore our shared history through IMLS250: All Stories. All People. All Places. This initiative underscores the importance of museums and libraries as engaged and trusted community institutions.”

The APR reviews key impacts of the agency’s activities for FY 2022. Highlights from the report include:

  *   Under the National Museum of the American Latino Act, IMLS awarded the first funds from the NMALA appropriation to support grant awards in four funding programs that reflected the spirit of the legislation to improve operations, care of collections, public outreach, and professional development in American Latino museums. IMLS also conducted research and planning for a new Museum Grants for American Latino History and Culture Program.

  *   IMLS entered its first Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Communications Commission, which aims to promote the availability of affordable broadband programs, recognizes the significant role that libraries and other community anchor institutions play in promoting digital access and inclusion. IMLS and the FCC are also partnering to increase the availability of broadband resources and support in Tribal and rural communities.

  *   The Grants to States program has been working with the State Librarians and library authorities to support organizations at the state level, including smaller, rural, and town libraries. Partners also came together for the first in-person meeting of the Chief Officers of State Library Agencies since the pandemic began.

  *   The Museums for All program reached a milestone with over 1,000 participating museums providing free or discounted access to families and children who are economically challenged.
