COMMITTEE HEARINGS
Rural Libraries Endowment Fund. Senate Bill 214 appropriates $37 million to the fund. The bill will be heard in the Senate Indian, Rural and Cultural Affairs Committee on Tuesday morning, February 7th. It is the second of four bills scheduled to be heard.
San Miguel County Rural Libraries. Senate Bill 258 appropriates $42,000 for rural library services in San Miguel County. The bill will be heard in the Senate Indian, Rural and Cultural Affairs Committee on Tuesday morning, February 2nd. It is the third of four bills scheduled to be heard.
These two bills were scheduled to be heard on February 2nd, but the Committee did not get to them.

National History Day Program Schools
Senate Bill 270 by Senator Hemphill appropriates $200,000 to the Department of Cultural Affairs to support schools that participate in the National History Day Program. The New Mexico State Library would contract with the New Mexico Endowment for the Humanities to assist them in conducting the annual New Mexico History Day competition in public and other schools. SB 270 was heard in the Senate Indian, Rural and Cultural Affairs Department on February 3rd. It was given a do-pass recommendation on a 5-0 vote, and is now awaiting a hearing in the Senate Finance Committee.

AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE RURAL LIBRARIES ENDOWMENT FUND. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION. --Thirty-seven million dollars ($37,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the rural libraries endowment fund for expenditure in fiscal year 2024 and subsequent fiscal years for the purposes of the fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of a fiscal year shall not revert to the general fund.

AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT DIVISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION FOR SAN MIGUEL COUNTY TO PROVIDE LIBRARY AND COMMUNITY SERVICES FOR RURAL AREAS OF THE COUNTY.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION. --Forty-two thousand dollars ($42,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the local government division of the department of finance and
administration for expenditure in fiscal year 2024 for San Miguel county to provide library and community services in rural areas of the county. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2024 shall revert to the general fund

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO: SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION. --Two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the library division of the cultural affairs department for expenditure in fiscal year 2024 to support schools that participate in the national history day program. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2024 shall revert to the general fund.
