The TRAILS Manual was originally developed by Dr. Lotsee Paterson, an important person in the development of tribal libraries in NM (and the US) and our Tribal Libraries Program. It is a great resource and in need of updating (last updated in 2017 - TRAILS BETA MAY 2017.pdf (ala.org)<https://www.ala.org/aboutala/sites/ala.org.aboutala/files/content/diversity/TRAILS%20BETA%20MAY%202017.pdf>).

I will be overseeing the "Programs and Services" chapter and am looking forward to the anticipated robustness of the manual once completed.

Dear Cassandra;

ATALM's Tribal Library Council is seeking volunteers to help revise the "Tribal Resources for American Indian Library Services"(TRAILS) Procedures Manual and develop a supplement on Digital Inclusion. All content will be freely available on ATALM's Tribal Library Council web page.

Assistance is needed in the following areas:

  1.  Content Development (updating existing chapters or developing new ones)
  2.  Identifying resources for chapters (each chapter will have robust resources)
  3.  Developing webinars and/or in-person training on chapter topics (each chapter will be accompanied by an online webinar and/or sessions at the annual ATALM Conference)

ABOUT THE "TRIBAL RESOURCES FOR AMERICAN INDIAN LIBRARY SERVICES (TRAILS) PROCEDURES MANUAL"

The Training Resources for American Indian Library Services (TRAILS) manual for Tribal Libraries was first produced in 1992 by Dr. Lotsee Patterson as part of the original TRAILS program funded by the US Department of Education’s Office of Educational Research and Improvement, Library Programs. It was updated in 2017 by a team of Native American librarians and members of the American Library Association and Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums. The updated TRAILS manual will be freely available on the Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums website.

ABOUT THE "DIGITAL INCLUSION TOOLKIT FOR TRIBAL LIBRARIES"

The "Digital Inclusion Toolkit for Tribal Libraries" will help tribal librarians expand their library’s technological resources and virtual connectivity. This toolkit features guidance on hardware, software, and broadband infrastructure as well as community engagement and programming.  The toolkit is funded by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services National Leadership Grants for Libraries to the University of Arizona Native Nations Institute in partnership with ATALM.
