Good Afternoon!

I am pleased to announce that Kate Alderete has been named the next Deputy State Librarian for New Mexico. Kate has been the director of the Taos Public Library since 2018, and has prior experience at the United World College of the American West, Carnegie Public Library in Las Vegas, the Colorado Talking Books Library, and Denver Public Library. She has additional experience with literacy and writing programs, including the Denver Writes writing program, and Colorado State Library’s 1000 Books before Kindergarten program.

Kate holds leadership roles in professional efforts at the state and national level. She is the current Vice President/President Elect of the New Mexico Library Association, and a member of the ALA Policy Corp, which works directly with advocacy around LSTA funding and other important issues for the library field.

Kates says “I am a native New Mexican and I am thrilled to be in a position to further the State Library in its mission to serve all of New Mexico’s communities.”

And we are thrilled to have her! Kate’s first day at the State Library will be June 27.

Best,
Eli
