With support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the America250 Foundation, generous scholarships covering registration, lodging, and travel are available for the 2022 International Conference of Indigenous Archives, Libraries and Museums at the Pechanga Casino Resort in Temecula, California.
New for this year are special scholarships for people engaged in planning cultural facilities on tribal lands. Recipients of these funds are expected to participate in sessions related to cultural facility design and development.
It is anticipated that up to 100 scholarships will be funded. Scholarships range from $325 to $1,000. The application is easy and takes about 20 minutes. Applicant Criteria:
* Must reside or work in the United States.
* Must currently be a staff member with a tribal archive, library, museum, historic preservation office, language program, or other cultural programs, or
* Work with Indigenous collections in non-tribal archive, library, museum, or cultural programs, or
* Be currently enrolled in a museum, library, or archival-related educational program.
Selection Criteria the Scholarship Review Committee Considers
* The extent the applicant is involved with Native collections.
* The extent to which the applicant will benefit from the conference.
* Financial need.
* The number of applications received from the same organization. Multiple applications per organization are permitted, but typically only one scholarship is awarded to the staff member most involved with tribal collections.
* If the applicant is a United States resident. Note that IMLS funds cannot be used for non U.S. residents.
Scholarship Amounts
Scholarships range from $325 to $1,000, with most averaging around $750. Scholarships are not intended to cover the full cost of attending the conference.
What does a Scholarship Cover?
Registration
* Registration may cover Basic Registration ($325) or Full Registration ($450). Full registration includes a preconference workshop or fieldtrip and cultural events.
Lodging
* Scholars requesting Basic Registration are eligible for three (3) nights shared lodging (October 25, 26, 27)
* Scholars requesting Full Registration are eligible for four (4) nights shared lodging (October 24, 25, 26, 27).
* Scholars may request a private room for an additional $94 per night. Payment for private rooms must be made to ATALM at least two weeks in advance of the conference.
* Any nights beyond the three or four authorized by ATALM are the Scholar's responsibility, as are all incidental charges other than room and tax.
Travel
* Due to the large number of applications received, travel costs are rarely funded.
* If funded, travel awards are capped at $250.
* If awarded travel, you will book and pay for your own travel.
* Funds are not provided for airport parking, baggage fees, etc.
* Travel reimbursements are paid at the conference, provided you have submitted receipts by the deadline of October 1, 2022.
Meals
* Registration includes two breakfasts and two luncheons.
* Per diem is not covered.

* 10 FREE certificate-based Professional Development Certificate opportunities in Archives Development and Management, Collections Care, Digital Projects, Exhibits, Facilities, Historic Preservation/Repatriation, Library Services and Programs, Native Arts and Culture Bearers, Oral History, and Partnerships and Collaborations
