Cassandra,
The last time that we spoke was prior to the pandemic and we were speaking about funding opportunities for tribal libraries. I worked for the New Mexico Community Foundation at that time. I'm presently serving as the fourth City of Santa Fe historian, and I am hoping that you will share my history project with your colleagues and anyone who might be interested in this new tool.
Here’s a synopsis of the history project and links to the Storymaps which are now published and accessible to the public. Hope to hear your thoughts and feedback soon!
Project summary:
The City of Santa Fe's fourth historian has gathered thoughts and ideas from the community and created ArcGIS Storymaps, which serve as a tool to enhance learning and build more knowledge of our past. This digital learning tool reflects historical truths and uplifts our shared values. The public is invited to click open Storymap links featured on the City of Santa Fe’s website, and browse the online resources that includes archival photos, historical essays, videos and maps.
One Storymap features “A People’s History,” highlighting historically significant places with the city and surrounding area, while the other Storymap focuses on, “Layers of Santa Fe,” which is an assembly of maps starting with environmental data, archival maps, interactive data maps, cultural perspectives, and links to other Storymaps. Historical essays on places and the digital repository of Santa Fe history that is held at the Santa Fe Library are accessible via hyperlinks embedded within the Storymaps.
During the summer of 2022, the City of Santa Fe Arts and Culture Department will also share a virtual interactive tool for younger generations which offers perspectives on history and place. The content is meant to spark important conversations about the values of our society and the future society we wish to create.
