Hi, all —
Hope you are all well!
New Mexico Historic Sites (NMHS) is pleased to announce that the Tunstall Store at Lincoln Historic Site (LHS) will be open to the public once more starting this weekend. As we wrote in our press release in February<https://media.newmexicoculture.org/release/1384/lincoln-historic-sit>, NMHS is regularly engaged in maintaining the integrity of its projects, and during a major restoration park at LHS over the last few months, the nearby habitat of Mexican Freetail and Pallid bats was disrupted and several of them found their way into the attic of the Tunstall Store.
A team of wildlife biologists and bat removal specialists worked with LHS staff to protect both the building and the bat neighbors while staff from New Mexico History Museum ensured the artifacts within the store were removed and replaced safely. Now, the bats are back in their habitant and work on the store has been fully completed.
“It’s still a little chilly inside, but we are excited to be able to share this wonderful exhibit with our weekend visitors,” said Herbert Chesney, acting regional site manager at Fort Stanton Historical Site and Lincoln Historic Site.
Lincoln Historic Site is open Thursday through Monday, 10 am to 4 pm.
Please reach out if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Brandon
