[Nmtriblibs] Updates & resources: FCC Emergency Broadband Benefit and Emergency Connectivity Fund - 5/6/21

Hi All,

Richard Govea, our Broadband Opportunities Program Manager, shared the latest information on the FCC's Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) & Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) programs in today's New Mexico Librarians' Lounge. You can view the recording here:

The EBB program will begin accepting applications next Wednesday, May 12. Your library can help people know about and apply for this limited program to apply for $50 or $75 per month broadband discounts and subsidies for laptops or tablets from approved providers.

Dale,

Attached is the EBB flyer and ECF overview that I presented today. I also attached PED's news release concerning the EBB.

Information regarding the Federal Poverty Guidelines can be found here: https://aspe.hhs.gov/2021-poverty-guidelines#guidelines

For quick reference, libraries and schools apply for ECF to get reimbursements on eligible equipment and services that have been purchased since July 1, 2020 to current and the EBB is for households to apply to receive monthly discounts on their monthly broadband service.

Also, CIPA may apply to items and services purchased under the ECF. For applicants filing for EBB, they should be aware of contract terms that they are signing up for (if it's new service). Funds may run out at any given time and the applicant should understand their options and obligations when signing up for new service with EBB subsidies.
