Hi all,
American Libraries just published a wrap up of the ARSL Conference at https://americanlibrariesmagazine.org/blogs/the-scoop/rural-libraries-and-community-well-being/, which highlights an IMLS project "Pathways to Wellbeing" for which the New Mexico State Library is a research partner and Abiquiu's Isabel Trujillo was a participant. This project is highlighting the deep but underappreciated social role that libraries play, but that is not adequately captured with our current reporting tools.
Margo Gustina and I provided an initial findings presentation at last year's NMLA conference, and we are now in the process of publishing the full report. You can find the full report here<https://osf.io/m9kwu/> or view the key findings brief<https://osf.io/pr8yc/> if your time is limited. If you really want to dig in, the same site provides open access data, including the full coded transcripts from over 200 interviews we did in eight locations nationwide
The project is not done just yet. Our team of rural library directors is in the process of revamping the tools they created out of this research, which will be posted to rurallibraries.org<https://rurallibraries.org/> (click the subscribe button to receive updates), and we are currently working on a separate paper focusing on the behaviors, talents, skills, and actions that rural library directors demonstrate when successful in positively impacting social wellbeing in their communities.
I hope you find this information affirming, thought provoking, and useful. Please don't hesitate to ask if you'd like more information on this project or its findings.
Best,
Eli
