As I am sure you all are aware, November is Native American Heritage Month. So with that in mind, I thought that you might like to peruse the offerings from this vendor. They have some good suggestions for Native films and even have a live streaming link toward the bottom of the page of films that you could show to your community right now.  I hope that you all are doing well and staying warm.  Please let me know if your library celebrates Native American Heritage Month and the activities that you used to mark the celebration. A Warm Welcome to Native American Heritage Month!

As the days grow shorter and the temperature drops, this begins the season of storytelling for many Native American Tribes. Native people are storytellers. For generations, our ancestors passed our Indigenous
culture to us through stories shared around a fire in a warm tipi. Today, with camera in hand, Native filmmakers bring those stories to life on screen.

November is a time each year where our stories receive widespread national attention as part of Native American Heritage Month. This year, just like Pulitzer Prize winning poet N. Scott Momaday passed down
his stories to his daughter Jill Momaday, we celebrate the stories and generational tales passed down to us from childhood.

Join us in highlighting as many Native American stories/folklore as we can by sharing these stories with the world using the hashtag #VMMstories2019. We also invite you to join us in celebrating the long-awaited release of Sundance Film Festival Selection Words from a Bear on American Masters November 18 and its companion piece Return to Rainy Mountain airing November 19.

Your friends, family, Tribal members, and organizations...everyone deserves to see stories on screen that reflect their experiences. Please invite them to watch with you.
