From Bradley.Carrington at state.nm.us Thu Jan 6 16:49:18 2022 From: Bradley.Carrington at state.nm.us (Carrington, Bradley, DCA) Date: Thu, 6 Jan 2022 23:49:18 +0000 Subject: [Nmsalsa] testing our data load in Symphony Message-ID: Hello administrators, We will have a session next week with Sarah to discuss our test load. It will be Thursday from 1-4. We will get access to our Symphony Web. We will compare records in the test load to records in our current databases and record concerns using a shared Google spreadsheet. Please review the attached plan. See below for info from Sarah. So, whom should Sarah invite? We need people in place to test the MOIFA load, the RBM load, the BBM load and the SALSA load. By the end of tomorrow (Friday the 7th) please let me know if you or someone else needs an invite. Thank you for your time and effort -- it is substantial, and I appreciate it! Brad Here is Sarah's advice: I would encourage you to invite to the call only those folks who will be helping you to review the test load data and report issues - detail oriented people that work with bib and user records regularly. We like to keep that group to 10 people or less if possible, but I understand if you need more. There's no need prior to the call to answer any of the questions in the document I sent. Just distribute it to staff prior to the session. We'll review it during the call. They may want to print it out beforehand to take notes. The training course (next week Jan 18-19) filled up, but at least one person from each library is registered (Chavez, MOA, OSE, NMSL, West, East, NE, BBM, MOIFA). I won't be attending these sessions, due to the enrollment limit. I'm assigning the following self-paced courses (they aren't too long); also assigning to Lori, Kathleen and Joseph (the Lab filled up and I couldn't add them, but they can watch the tutorials). Here are the tutorials that you can watch or rewatch. (You can rewatch any of the tutorials. From your transcript list your Completed Courses and use the View Certificate dropdown to click Launch.) * Ent-1101 SirsiDynix Enterprise End User, SELF-PACED * Ent-2101 SirsiDynix Enterprise Admin Overview/Quick Reference SELF-PACED * Ent-3201 Enterprise Introduction to Rooms SELF-PACED * Ent-3211 Enterprise Adding Content to Rooms SELF-PACED * Ent-3401 SirsiDynix Enterprise Book Lists (Symphony) SELF-PACED Our Portfolio training will be rescheduled. Here's a description of Portfolio. Portfolio is a Digital Asset Management program installed as an extension of Enterprise. The term "digital asset" refers to a wide range of resources such as pictures, audio files, video files, text files, and PDFs. Digital assets can be searched for and displayed in search results, in the same was as your bibliographic records. They can also be assigned to display in rooms. You will add the metadata necessary for describing the asset, using Dublin Core. Think about if you would like to load digital content for your library. Again, you are keeping up with loaded tray of training. Thank you! Right after your Enterprise training come System Administration training sessions (Jan. 19-24, 11-3 each day). I will request enrollment for all of the managers: "The 13 Managers" NMSL -- Laura, Lori, Joseph, Brad Rural Services -- Teresa, Zach, Laura, Liana Downtown -- Abby, Kathleen, Heather, Susan The Hill! Brian Joseph and I will help you with your configuration needs and we can do the work for you. But, if you can, do try to attend these training sessions. You will be welcome to have as much configuration privilege as is comfortable and safe. Of course, I'll assign some system admin tutorials -- all optional -- once I watch several and pick the better ones. The first session with Shane does conflict with your second session of Enterprise training. So, Shane will cover only cataloging configuration in the first session. You can accept all the invites for the Admin training and then attend as you can. Here's the agenda for the first session (Jan. 19), indicated on the agenda as Session 3. (I attach the full agenda.) Here's what you will miss while you are in the Enterprise session: Session 3 - Cataloging Configuration -- Defining Templates -- Setting Defaults -- Making Tags Local -- Making a Tag searchable -- Auto-removal of subfields within a tag during batch loading -- Tag must exist in a format to be utilized -- Custom Classification Policies -- Global Cataloging Configuration The very next day after the training with Shane we begin the configuring with Sarah. You are especially welcome to attend the sessions with Sarah. Together we will make our initial settings, then during our testing period we will work and tweak until we're pleased. It seems like several pieces of information cannot be filled in until we have access to our page on Sirsi/Dynix (e.g. Google Analytics tracking ID). My overall questionis, how much control will individual consortium member libraries have on how a page looks and acts? I'm assuming that a uniformity of design and public interface is desirable for a consortial catalog. What will be the standards to this Sirsi/Dynix version of SALSA? Also, I am very interested in learning more about Portfolio. Let us know when the training is rescheduled. Thanks.
