Basically, REALM is a research project conducted by OCLC, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and Battelle to produce science-based information about how materials can be handled to mitigate COVID-19 exposure to staff and visitors of archives, libraries, and museums. It is presented in lay terms so those of us who are not scientific types can understand the data. It was an excellent presentation and one that I believe should be shared with all archivists, librarians and museums. I have attached the basic power point presentation and a resource list. The complete webinar with discussion was recorded and should be available soon at https://www.connectingtocollections.org/archives/ This is the web site for REALM: https://www.oclc.org/realm/home.html On the website under resources there are tool kits that are geared to archives, libraries or museums. The information presented shares data from experiments that were conducted to see how long the Covid-19 virus remains on paper, books or other materials. What was found that in the end, quarantining the objects after having been handled may be the best disinfecting method as chemicals, UV, heat, fogging or other disinfectants could prove harmful to books and paper collections. Another excellent resource is the Northeast Document Conservation Center or https://www.nedcc.org/ . Their website contains various preservation leaflets on a variety of subjects and information on the care of books, photographs and audio to name a few. If possible, can you please share this information with any other organizations that you know? Sue Taylor Curator Supervisor Mail: P.O. We can review all the PAC functionality at a SALSA meeting -- soon-- as well as Leaping about. I need to inform the agency if anything will look different to them in the OPAC. Watching the videos today. Looks friendlier... so I may use both versions depending on where I'm working. Thanks. sms ________________________________ From: nmsalsa-bounces at lists.zianet.com on behalf of Carrington, Bradley, DCA Sent: Monday, March 29, 2021 10:50 AM To: nmsalsa at lists.zianet.com Subject: [EXT] [Nmsalsa] Polaris upgrade Thursday Hello SALSA, We have our date for the Polaris upgrade (6.7): this Thursday April 1st! No foolin' The system will be down until early afternoon, including the OPAC. Trivia: it was April 1st 2014 that III purchased Polaris. We will have access finally to Leap, the web version. I haven't yet talked to our account manager, so I don't know how long it will take for III to give us license to Leap. Plus there will be some sysadmin settings that I'll have to make. I'll let you know. Polaris still makes available its Windows client version. Some functions are still only in the Windows client, e.g. editing and importing bibs.
