For sorting and searching to work well SirsiDynix wants to uppercase all of our call numbers. If we leave them mixed case, then searching and reporting will require the exact casing used. examples of changing to uppercase: * FIC H652dar c. 1 becomes FIC H652DAR C. 1 * LC 1.2:Sa 5 becomes LC 1.2:SA 5 * A 80.2013: R56gr S43st c. 1 becomes A 80.2013: R56GR S43ST C. 1 * Bernalillo Folder 46 c. 1 becomes BERNALILLO FOLDER 46 C. 1 * MISC DOCS No.751 c. 1 becomes MISC DOCS NO.751 C. 1 * Bernalillo Folder 36/ Summ. c. 1 becomes BERNALILLO FOLDER 36/ SUMM. Our data consultant (Bob) will load the backup copies that we extracted back in August and create our test database. We will see how it all went during the testing period in January-February. We'll have to know our way around Symphony before we start testing, so the first round of training will be Jan. 4-10. See details below. The training will be repeated in February. Our trainer will be Shane. For the training sessions ten of you will be on "hands on" workstations. If you are hands-on you will be obligated to type along and make things work. Others can attend as observers. The sessions will be online and will launch from Mentor; you have a link to Mentor when you sign in to the SirsiDynix Support Center. Our project manager Brian will send out the registration emails for the training sessions, so please let me know who should be registered - let me know by Thursday. So, who shall attend which sessions? Let me know if you want to be a participant or an observer. The January sessions are aimed at the managers and anybody working on testing our migration policies. But other librarians and technicians are welcome! Other library staff can attend the February training and anybody can join those sessions for a repeat.
