From Lori.Thornton at state.nm.us Wed Nov 27 09:20:29 2019 From: Lori.Thornton at state.nm.us (Thornton, Lori, DCA) Date: Wed, 27 Nov 2019 16:20:29 +0000 Subject: [Nmgovdocs] government documents cataloging guidance Message-ID: <9e9ab5d2e89645c186e12229e9b8f2a1@MBXCAS005.nmes.lcl> Hello all, The Government Publishing Office continues to update its Cataloging Guidelines in order to ensure they are in accord with national cataloging standards, including RDA and the Library of Congress Program for Cooperative Cataloging Policy Statements, and to adapt those instructions as needed for local policy and procedures. To that end, they have finished extensive revision of three chapters to the Cataloging Guidelines. The three chapters are: General MARC Field Policies; Monographs Overview; and Monographs MARC Fields. https://www.fdlp.gov/cataloging-guidelines Meanwhile, GODORT is creating cataloging toolboxes for government publications. The Cataloging Toolbox for Federal Government Information is under construction and in need of volunteers for both input a proofreading. http://www.ala.org/rt/godort/onlineresources The Cataloging Toolbox for State Government Information has not yet been released. Subgroups consisting of 10 states per group are being formed to develop the state toolbox. If you'd like to assist with the development of that toolbox, please contact amorris at indiana.edu. Two new titles were recently added to the FDLP Basic Collection (the resources to which each Federal depository library must provide access) and you are encouraged to review the titles at your library to ensure that you are providing access to all of the resources in the Basic Collection. To facilitate bibliographic control over the titles in the collection, recently reviewed and updated catalog records or information about them are available here - https://github.com/usgpo/cataloging-records/tree/master/Online_FDLP_Basic_Collection. Finally, a WebTech Notes redesign is underway. WebTech notes allows users to search, browse, and view updates to SuDoc numbers and the List of Classes information, such as additions and modifications to Federal document classifications that have been made. The new and improved platform will launch sometime in 2020.
